Apple Inc on Thursday issued a statement that it has found “no evidence” of a flaw in its Mail app for iPhones and iPads that can be used against customers and that it believes the loophole does “not pose an immediate risk to our users”.

Millions of iPhone and iPad user’s privacy might be at risk due to a security lapse in the iOS Mail app, claims ZecOps, a mobile security firm based in San Francisco.

ZecOps alleged that the bug was used to attack reputed individuals including a person from a Fortune 500 company in North America, an executive from a mobile carrier in Japan, employees of technology companies in Saudi Arabia and Israel, a European journalist and an individual in Germany but insisted upon keeping the victims’ identities secret.

According to the firm, to target a victim, hackers would nudge a blank message to an iPhone or iPad user’s Mail account — the default email app on iOS devices. Opening the message would crash the app forcing the user to restart. During the time it takes to reboot an iOS device, the phone becomes highly susceptible to hackers.

This sophisticated method of hacking eliminates the need to download an external software or make a user click a link, thus, making it work like a ninja and disappear like one.
