Social Media Usage On Rise Amid Social Distancing:
People have started living more in the online world due to COVID-19 pandemic, which has reduced social interaction and allowed social distancing all over the world. Social media giant Facebook says that there has been a tremendous increase in the use of messaging and live video globally, including in India amid the pandemic.

Facebook believes that users leverage these features to stay connected with others during the pandemic. At the Indian Mobile Congress 2020, Facebook India Director and Head of Partnerships Manish Chopra said that people all over the world are following the social distancing which has led to a rapid increase in digital engagement.

Chopra further said that people are using our apps more than ever before. Globally, 50% of growth has been recorded in messaging and 60% in live video. Video views have increased the most, especially on Instagram.

India accounts for a third share of video posts created on Instagram, he said. India is one of the biggest markets for Facebook, which also operates the photo-sharing platform Instagram and messaging app WhatsApp.

All of Facebook's family of apps are used by 2.5 billion people globally, while there are over 10 million active advertisers on these platforms. Manish Chopra says that 800 million active users globally engage in live video streaming on Facebook and Instagram daily. These users organize workout classes, concerts, faith services and other activities to stay connected with their audience.

Coronavirus has affected this much change but in that change, the presence of people in the online world has increased more. This may be good news for Facebook, but what it will prove to the whole world, only time will tell.
