During the pandemic, when the pockets are empty, tea has become expensive by 42%. However, tea selling companies have increased their price by 20% in the month of July-August. Companies are afraid that a sudden price hike might compel people to reduce their tea intake. The biggest reason for the price rise is the drop in production during the lockdown. The tea gardens of West Bengal and Assam suffered significant losses due to lockdown as well as heavy rains in June-July. In the first six months of 2020, compared to last year, production has reduced by 26%, which is 3 crore 48 lakh kgs. However, Tea Board India estimates that production may increase in the last six months of this year
