New figures show that within 4 months of the current financial year in April-July, the government breached its target of fiscal deficit. In the midst of a crisis-ridden economy, the biggest challenge before the government is to raise money for its expenditure and welfare schemes. Statistics show that as the economy slows down, its income is also decreasing. According to the latest CAG data, the gap between revenue and expenditure reached Rs 8.21 lakh crore, or 103% of the budgeted estimate. In the same period of the last financial year, the government was on the budget target of 79 percent.
