Uttarakhand: Floods And Landslides Wreak Havoc After Heavy Rainfall

The death toll caused by rain-related disasters like flash floods and landslides in Uttarakhand has reached 47 now, with dozens of people injured and about the same number reported missing. Here is a brief look into the death toll by district in the state:

  • Nainital, 28
  • Almora, 6
  •  Champawat, 2
  • Bagheshwar, 1
  •  Udham Singh Nagar, 2
  • Incidents On 17, 18th October also led to loss of lives

Many homes have been washed away in the floods as well. Uttarakhand CM Dhami has announced a compensation of ₹4 lakhs to the deceased.

Apart from floods, even landslides have caused major destruction in the state. In the flood-affected areas, the NDRF has successfully managed to rescue 30 people by forming 16 teams for the same. However, the Kosi river is above the danger mark, flowing in the eastern part of the Jim Corbett National Park. Official data says that in the past 24 hours, the river has seen 227-530 mm. of rain.
