During today's emergency UNSC meeting called after Russia recognized the Donetsk and Luhansk breakaway regions of eastern Ukraine and moved its troops into the region, India urged 'de-escalation' of conflict while intensifying diplomacy. Permanent Representative T.S. Tirumurti said that the safety of "20,000 Indian students and nationals" in Ukraine, including in the conflict-affected regions, is a top priority for the country.
