₹2.56 Lakh Crore Debt Greater Than Budget, MP Govt Announces ₹2000 Cr. Statue

The Madhya Pradesh government has announced the construction of an Adi Shankaracharya Statue, dubbed "Statue of Oneness", along with a Vedanta Institute and an International Museum, even as the state is saddled with a debt of ₹2.56 Lakh Crore which is more than its average budget of around ₹2.4 lakh crore. The project including the statue, 'gurukul', and museum, will cost ₹2,116 crore. The Opposition inthe statehas alleged that the government has increased its borrowings and therefore interest burden even as te sate is already being crushed by debt. The per capita debt of citizens in Madhya Pradesh comes to ₹34,000.
