Calling it a 'travesty of justice' the Congress expressed shock on the Special Court's decision to acquit all the accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case and urged the Centre and state govts to appeal against the decision. Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said the five-judge bench of the Supreme Court in its judgement on 9th November 2019 held that demolition of the Babri Masjid was “clear illegality and egregious violation” of the rule of law. Surjewala said the entire nation witnessed a “deep-rooted political conspiracy” by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) and its leaders to destroy the country’s communal amity and brotherhood for usurping power at any cost.
