The Parliamentary panel on Information Technology led by Shashi Tharoor Thursday summoned Facebook on September 2 to discuss the issue of alleged bias of the social media platform towards right-wing politicians and pages. Officials of the IT Ministry have also been asked to be present during the meeting, as per an official statement. The move comes in the wake of a report in the US newspaper Wall Street Journal (WSJ) that a Facebook top executive had deliberately chosen not to apply hate speech rules to certain BJP leaders.
