Journalists Unsafe In India, Killers Go Unpunished!

Over the past few years, journalists have been feeling increasingly unsafe in India. India was widely criticised abroad after the murder of the renowned journalist Gauri Lankesh in 2017, and the murder of Sulabh Srivastava by the alcohol mafia had caused anger to erupt in the fraternity again. A report published recently has revealed that India is quite lax in punishing those who kill its journalists.

According to the Global Impunity Index 2021 published by the Committee To Protect Journalists, an international organisation, India is among those 12 countries where murderers of journalists are able to roam scot-free and there have been no charges  in 80% of cases related to their killings. CPJ is a non-profit organisation that publishes the Global Impunity Index list every year.
