Ladakh's Zojila Tunnel Project Left In The Lurch, PM Inaugurated Project In 2018

Ladakh, in focus due to India China border tension, is set to be cut off from Kashmir in winter once again as strategic Zojila pass would be under snow. While the project was inaugurated by PM Modi in May 2018, in Jan 2019, the contract with IL&FS group was terminated. The project remained stalled, and fresh bids were invited only in June this year. Road and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has also said that some design changes may be needed to check the cost of project, which may mean doing away with the escape tunnels that were planned.
