Akhilesh Yadav has commenced his Samajwadi Party’s “Vijay Yatra” from Ghazipur to Lucknow on the Purvanchal Expressway which was inaugurated yesterday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the presence of UP CM Yogi Adityanath. Yadav will hold “sabhas” (meetings) at various points on the highway, including the airstrips meant for emergency use by fighter jets.

The BJP had politicized the inauguration of the Purvanchal expressway which is one of many that are criss-crossing Uttar Pradesh in recent times. It hailed the completion of the Purvanchal expressway as a paradigm of its ‘development’ and had lambasted previous BSP and SP governments on the same plank.

The SP and BSP have also staked a claim to the expressway and both have claimed a role in establishing it. The Samajwadi Party also cited the Agra Expressway which it completed in 22 months as opposed to the BJP which is inaugurating an incomplete Purvanchal Expressway that was begun by the Samajwadi Party, according to the latter.

A crowd was gathered in significant numbers and energy as Yadav congratulated them for coming together with the party. “I have full confidence that in the future, the energy and the wave of change that I am seeing her will lead to the BJP’s washout. The soil of Ghazipur is the land of our brave, and those who have sacrificed” he told the jubilant crowd.
