Medical Fraternity Raises Pitch For Dr. Kafeel Khan's Release
Dr. Kafeel Khan, a pediatrician who was earlier cleared in the infamous infant deaths case in Gorakhpur, has been in jail since January 29 for an alleged anti-CAA speech in Aligarh. He was granted bail by a judicial magistrate but was not released. Charges were then framed under the NSA.
Since then, his bail hearing has been postponed 12 times, with the next date of hearing on August 4. Dr. Harjit Bhatti, President of the Progressive Medicos and Scientists Forum, who has been vocal in demanding Dr. Khan's release, says he will get bail if a hearing is held. Dr.Khan's continuing incarceration is demoralising for doctors at a time when the nation is facing a pandemic, Bhatti added. Anjali Ojha reports
