Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme (MNREGA) which saved millions of Indians from destitution and hunger during the Covid19 Pandemic has witnessed a 25.5% cutback in Budget 2022 proposals.

Despite demands from farmers unions and agriculture activists after the repeal of three controversial Farm Laws, the Finance Minister has not increased allocation for procurement of food grains. In fact, allocation has been reduced from Rs 2.42 lakh crore from last budget to Rs 2.37 lakh crore

Fertiliser Subsidy has been slashed by 24%, Food Subsidy given for procurement of agricultural produce at Minimum Support Price (MSP) has been cut by 27.7% and Petroleum Subsidy which is used by a large number of farmers who consume diesel has been reduced by 10.8%.
