The SKM (Samykta Kisan Morcha), the umbrella body of farmers that as been leading and organizing the farmers’ protest movement for over a year, has said that it is calling off its March to Parliament on 29th November to give Prime Minister Narendra Modi timeu until 4th December t consider and implement their demands, which include guaranteeing MS through law and withdrawing “false” cases against farmers who joined the protest.

SKM member and farmer leader Rajveer Singh Jadaun said that the present agitation is merely suspended and not ended, and said that it wants the PM to provide a “constructive and positive” reply to their demands and engage only with the SKM in negotiations. “They must return to the dialogue table and talk about our remaining issues”.

The demand for MSP is the mainstay of the letter written to the PM, Jadaun said that the SKM will not return without getting these demands fulfilled. It is not satisfied with the announcement smade by the government and will not be content merely with “aakashvaani” (announcements) but needs the government to come face to face with them and fulfil their demands with due respect. He also said that farmers are being jailed in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri incident, which must be resolved.

Govt Of India Should tell Whether It Wants To benefit Farmers Or Not: Rakesh Tikait

“The program to loot foodgrains is being implemented with the agreement of the government of India” said Rakesh Tikait during a press conference. He said that this was a priority for the SKM that the government should give a legal guarantee for MSP, and the eyes of the nation are on it.

He also said that after the MSP issue there will be other farmers’ concern s raised by forming a committee, including talks onSeed Bill, Pesticide Bill, etc.

He said that 40-50 years ago, big traders used to “capture” grains directly on the fields and today too, the government wants to enable the big capitalists and corporations to do the same.
