It is not hidden from anyone what impact the corona pandemic had on the industry. Hundreds of industries closed and thousands committed suicide in the lockdown imposed to control the pandemic.

Despite the government's alleged efforts, 11,716 self-employed committed suicide due to the closure of industries during the pandemic.

However, the central government claims that many steps have been taken to deal with it and a scheme worth lakhs of crores has been started. Apart from these, the Center had also announced an economic package of Rs 20 lakh crore and separate funds were also allocated for MSMEs.

In response to a question in the Lok Sabha, the Central Government said that while 9,052 self-employed MSMEs had committed suicide in the year 2019 before the pandemic, it increased by 10 per cent despite the Centre's alleged efforts in the pandemic.
