In a new study by the JNU and University of Maryland, of 42,152 families about 27% of the families said they have faith in the caste system & practice untouchability. According to the survey, untouchability is observed more in the village than in the cities. 20% of the families in the cities while 30% in villages admitted that they practice untouchability. The survey has claimed that untouchability is practiced more in OBCs (33%) than in Kshatriya & Vaishya community (24%)
