WFP 'Hunger Hotspots' Report: India's Neighbours Affected!

In its  latest report, the World Food Programme (WFP) has released a list of 20 countries that are the hunger hotspots of the world. A combination of factors including conflict, climate change, and economic effects of the pandemic, have created a situation of dire fod insecurity in Africa, South America, South Asia.

Two of India’s neighbouring countries, Afghanistan and Myanmar, figure on this list, and both have come under the international spotlight for conflict and resultant displacement and food insecurity. In Afghanistan, 22.8 million are food insecure, and 8.7 million are expected to be in the ‘critical’ category by March 2022. The report says $4.4 billion ar required for assistance in Afghanistan.

Similarly, in Myanmar, it is estimated that 13.2 million people are food insecure in the civil unrest that began since the military coup of February 2021, and $100.5 million are required for assistance.
