General Bipin Rawat (16 March 1958- 8 December 2021) has been killed in the helicopter crash that occured today near Coonor, Tamil Nadu. 13 others including his wife Madhulika Rawat have died in the crash. He had a 40-year long career in the Armed Forces, becoming the first CDS when the post was created in 2019. He played a prominent role in the "Uri Surgical Strike" and is a PVSM, AVSM, and VSM awardee among other honours.
