Constitution Day was celebrated at Vigyan Bhawan today in the presence of the Chief Justice of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju.

The CJI NV Ramana said that despite the fact that the onstitution decided the very destony of the people and the country, many were simply unaware of it or what it says. The CJI also said in his speech that:

“The framers of the constitution made accountability as an integral element with respect to the executive and legislature. However, they consciously decided to keep the judiciary on a different pedestal. They trusted the competence of the men and women who would adopt the Bench and uphold the Constitution.

Looking back, I can proudly claim that as an institution, the judiciary has livedup to the faith reposited in it by the Constitutent Assembly. The fact that the Indian judiciary continues to be the last hope for those in distress suggests that it is on the right track”

Securing Justice Not Responsibility Of Judiciary Alone

CJI Ramana also said that the responsibility to ensure justice, imposed by the Constitution upon the state, is commonly perceived to be the judiciary’s ambit, but “it is not correct” to think that this is the court system’s burden alone. “All the three organs must work together” to ensure justice to people.

PM Modi Addresses Event

Prme Minister Narendra Modi said that the roles and responsibilities of the different organs of the state (executive, which he heads, and the judiciary) may be different, “but our faith, our inspiration, our source of vibrancy, is the Constitution. I am happy that our collective feeling on this matter is being expressed during this event marking Consitution Day and strengthening our Constitutional promises”

After the ‘hundreds of years of slavery’ borne by India, it had been ushed into many difficulties, and the Constitution had helped it find its way out. He said that we all know how much the Constitution stresses on “inclusion”, and yet it is a fact that after so many years of independence, people are still bearing the brunt of exclusion.

When the poor of the country are integrated into the mainsteam of development, then they feel equal to the task of nation building, Modi also saidin his address.
