In what can be seen as a clear display of confidence in the ruling dispensation, the prime accused religious leaders involved in the Dharma Sansad organized in Haridwar from 17-19th December, Sadhvi Annapurna and Yati Narsinghananda, were seen laughing with an Uttarakhand police offcer after Annapurna told him to conduct an "unbiased" investigation as a "constitutional authority". Narsinghananda replied by saying he is "biased, on our side", after which all those gathered can be seen bursting into laughter.

The two have been accused, along with Narayan Tyago who was formerly Wasim Rizvi, chairman of Shia Waqf Board, of giving a call for widespread armed violence against Muslims, although no one has been arrested as yet, while the Uttarakhand administration has also declined to apply the UAPA law on the accused.

The issue of police going soft on or ignoring misdeeds by BJP leaders has come into focus with the political opposition raising a ruckus over the running over and killing of farmers at Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, wherein a Minister of State's son is the prime accused and presently in custody. The opposition has been demanding that Ajay Mishtra Teni be sacked from the Cabinet until the investigation in complete, but he remains in his position as of now.

76 lawyers of the Supreme Court have written tot he CJI appealing to him to take suo moot cognizance of the hate speech conclave on grounds that it endangered the lives and liberties of Muslim citizens across the country.

Along with the 'Dharma Sansad' at Haridwar, another event of the same name was organized in raipur, Chhatisgarh, where the Congress is in power. There, one 'Kalicharan Maharaj', a self-styled religous leader, used offensive and obscene language against Mahatma Gandhi, which prompted promises of stern action by the state's Chief Minister Bhupesh Singh Baghel.
