The long-standing 'difference between sons and daughters' is now disappearing from the Indian society. Recent survey shows that over the last three decades, there has been a gradual increase in married couples who have opted for permanent family planning methods after the birth of a daughter. This shows that there is a growing awareness against gender discrimination in society. This is the reason now couples with only daughters are not hesitating to give up their desire for sons and opt for sterilisation
