LIVE | Farmers Agitation Called Off: SKM Leaders Take The Stage
The leaders of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha have called off their agitation today after receiving a written assurance from the Central government which had acceeded to most of its demands. The issue of the expulsion of Ajay Mishra 'Teni' from the Union Cabinet over the Lakhimpur Kheri farmers' killing incident has been dropped from the SKM's list of demands. It has said that the Centre has agreed to withdraw cases against farmers and form a committee on legal guarantee of MSP (Minimum Support Price). The Centre will consult and communicate with only the SKM members on farmers' issuesand will table the Electricity Bill only after discussions with them, it added further.
The UPand Haryana governments have also finalized a compensation of ₹5 Lakh for deceased farmerswho died duing the protest. The SKM will re-look the progress of the Centre's proise on 15th January and will mark December 11, 2021 as "Vijay Diwas" across the country, it said.
