The Kisan Mahapanchayat held in Lucknow today featured a range of top leaders of the farmers' movement that has been agitating on agricultural issues for over a year ever since the three contentious farming laws were passed in September 2020.

The leaders said tha the decision to impose and to roll back the laws was unilateral and made without consideration, and that the other demands of the farmers, i.e., guarantee of #MSP by law and the withdrawal of the Electricity Act (Amendment) Bill 2020-21.

Speaking to news agency ANI ahead of the mahapanchayat in Lucknow, Rakesh Tikait, arguably the movement's most popular face, said: "The panchayat is being held against the incident that took place in Lakhimpur Kheri. The amounthas not been paid for sugarcane, it is related to that as well. More than ₹4000 crore is due now. The farmers growing potatoes are upset, the crops are procured as per MSP.

The central government has decided to roll back the three laws, the state government should write to the centre regarding other issues. We want the correct price for the crops, withdrawal of the cases that were registered. The panchayat has been scheduled to discuss all of these"
