Omicron Update: UK, France See COVID Surge, India's Tally Now 300+
Surge in cases of Omicron across the United Kingdom has created a worrisome situation, as the country has reported more than 1,00,000 new daily cases for the first time since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. British regulators on Wednesday have approved of Pfizer's Covid-19 vaccine for use in children aged between five to 11 years.
As on Wednesday, France has also reported a spike in cases with more than 84,000 new Covid-19 infections in a single day, country's highest figure since April this year. Sudden spike in Covid positive cases has caused major concern for the government, which has deemed the health situation as "critical." Similar to U.K's situtation, France health authorities are projecting over 1,00,000 daily cases due to omicron variant.
India saw a spike in its daily Covid-19 cases on Thursday with single-day tally reaching up to 7,495. The daily deaths has also increased to 434. India's overall Covid-19 caseload has gone up to 3.42 crore. The national capital has the second highest Omicron cases with total cases going up to 64 cases. States such as Chandigarh, Ladakh,Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal have each reported one case of Omicron variant.
