This new version has been found in South Africa, Canada, and Australia.

A report in the in The Guardian says that this new ‘version’ is missing a genetic mutation which is critical to enable the RT-PCR test to detect the virus. There have been 1,300 cases of the new variant confirmed worldwide so far.

In India, there were 2 more cases of the Omicron variant confirmed in Maharashtra on 6th December after which the total number of patients reached 23.
