This Diwali, people burst firecrackers to their hearts’ fill despite a ‘complete ban’ on polluting firecrackers. The fireworks that went on late into the night in Delhi NCR have now led to severely poor air quality in Delhi and adjoining areas of Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon, and Faridabad. The air people are breathing in these areas is almost like suffocation, and can be compared with breathing in poison itself.

Air pollution increased severely in Delhi NCR and visibility also took a hit in the wake of intense firecrackers burst by people. The effects of this pollution could be seen on people’s health as well. While motorists complained of poor visibility and fog-like conditions, there was also the usual spate of burning sensation in the throat and eyes.

Delhi-NCR Air Becomes ‘Poisonous’

This rate was 460 in Faridabad, 450 in Ghaziabad, 423 in greater Noida, whereas it shot up to 478 in Haryana’s Gurugram which is classified as “serious”. The same scenario was observed in other parts of the country in the aftermath of Diwali.

Air quality was poor in these areas earlier as well, but it was better than the situation today on Friday. On Monday and Tuesday, the AQI was at 281 and 303 respectively, climbing up to 314 on Wednesday 4 PM.
