Congress leader and Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi conducted a press briefing at Vijay Chowk after the Lok Sabha session of Parliament’s Winter Session at Vijay Chowk, during which he said that there were many issues pending for discussion that could have been conducted as the Farm Laws Repeal Bill was being passed.

Gandhi said that the discussion was to take place on who or what was the driving force behind the introduction of the farming laws in the first place, on MSP, the issue of 700 farmers who had died during the movement, the incident at Lakhimpur Kheri, “and a discussion on their Home Minister” [referring to Minister of State (Home) Ajay Mshra ‘Teni’ being expelled for his alleged role in the violence against farmers] but the government did not allow it.

“The government thinks that the poor and the farmers have no power and can be suppressed, but this incident has shown that [these sections] cannot be suppressed in India”.

Gandhi took a strong aim against the government and said: “These Bills do not just reflect the views of the Prime Minister. They reflect the power behind the Prime Minister… This is a reflection of the fact that government is terrified of this discussion, the government wants to hide… does not have the guts to stand up for its actions”
