UP Elections 2022 Assembly Polls Updates 28 December 2021:

The Election Commission is not likely to postpone polls for Assembly in five states, making the race for the CM chair in UP more intense.

As the date draws nearer, words get sharper, and each political party tries to undercut the other and present itself as the best alternative  to the public in what is arguably India's most politically significant state. While many see the upcoming UP elections to be held in 2022 as a two-way contest between Samajwadi Party's Akhilesh Yadav on one hand the the Yogi-Modi combine by the BJP on the other, Priyanka Gandhi of Congress is also trying to consolidate women's vote in Uttar PRadesh with the 'Ladki Hoon Lad Sakti Hoon' campaign.

Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP CM Ygi Adityanath were in Kanpur together to inaugurate the Kanpur metro after making similar appearances together for the inauguration of the Noida International Airport at Jewar, and the Purvanchal Expressway. Akhilesh Yadav on the other hand, has claimed that the credit for these projects should go to the previous Samajwadi Party government.

Meanwhile, BSP Supremo Mayawati has said that the various activities of other political parties, be it the ruling BJP or other parties in opposition, are merely pre-poll gimmicks. She has also rebuffed calls for alliance by maverick newcomer Chandrashekhar Azad 'Ravan' who came to prominence as a Dalit activist from Saharanpur, Western UP, in 2017
