On January 10, 2020, the Supreme Court in a significant ruling, had declared access to the Internet as a fundamental right under Article 19 of the Indian Constitution. The top court took the decision on a batch of pleas filed against Internet shutdown in Jammu and Kashmir. But in 2020, India saw internet blackout of 8,927 hours and suffered a loss of $2.8 billion (Rs 20,074 crore approx.), topping the list of 21 countries
