In a heinous case of sexual crime against children, 8 men have been arrested for gang-raping a minor 13-year old girl for 8 months and forcing her into prostitution in Andhra Pradesh. The police rescued the girl from Guntur, and she had been forced to do sex work in the state and neighbouring Telangana as well. Cops are on the lookout for the other accused members of the racket after arresting 80 so far. On Tuesday, the police said that 10 men have been arrested, of which one is a B.Tech student.
The girl had been ‘taken away’ by a woman named Sawarna Kumari who had befriended the victim’s mother in a hospital in June 2021 when she was admitted for COVID-19. After the death of the victim’s mother, the victim was removed from her father without his knowledge, as per a police complaint by the father filed on August 2021.
The Guntur West zone police made the first arrests in this case in January, and then on April 19th yesterday and also rescud the survivor. The accused in the crime comprise of those with criminal links like kingpins and pimps and also customers.
Additional Superintendent of Police, K Supraja, said that of the 80 who have been identified, one is in London. One car, 53 cell phones, three autorickshaws and motorbikes were seized during the investigation. The arrests were made from Vijayawada, Hyderabad, Kakinada and Nellore.
