Birbhum Violence: 15 Member CBI Team Reaches Rampurahat Village For Investigation

A 15 member team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) led by DIG Akhilesh Singh along with forensic experts has reached Rampurahat village in West Bengal to investigate the Birbhum violence case.

The central probe agency has named 21 accused under Section 147, 148, 149, and other Sections in FIR on suspected offence of armed rioting.

The CBI took over the investigation in Birbhum (Rampurhat) violence case on Friday after the Calcutta High Court on Friday directed an SIT formed by the West Bengal government to hand over case papers and accused persons arrested by it to the central probe agency.

As many as eight people, including two children, were burnt to death in the Rampurhat area of West Bengal's Birbhum on Tuesday after a mob allegedly set houses on fire following the killing of Trinamool Congress leader Bhadu Sheikh

Apart from this West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee visited with the victims' families in Bogtui on Thursday and promised Rs 2 lakh compensation for the victims' burned-out homes.

In addition to the Rs 2 lakh compensation offered for house reconstruction, she also stated that the government will pay Rs 5 lakhs to the victims' next of kin and Rs 50,000 apiece to those wounded.
