Budget 2021: FM Announces Highway Bonanza For 4 Poll-Bound States

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday presenting the Union Budget 2021-22 announced road infrastructure plan for four states — Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala and Assam  where elections are due this year.

She pledged that the Centre will award national highway projects to the tune of 8,500 km by March 2022 to further augment road infrastructure, and complete an additional 11,000 km of National Highway Corridor.

In the high-stake state of West Bengal, the Minister announced the construction of 675 km corridor at the cost of Rs 95,000 crore; 3,500 km in Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs 1.03 lakh; 1,100 km in Kerala at an investment of Rs 65,000; and 1,300 km of corridor in Assam
