Modern Inc on Thursday said that its vaccine for COVID-19 remains about 93 percent effective through six months after the second dose. This shows hardly any change from the 94 percent efficacy that it reported during the original clinical trial.
It expects booster shots to be a necessity ahead of the winter season as the antibody levels are expected to decline. Moderna along with Pfizer Inc and BioNTech have been thinking about a third shot to maintain a high level of protection against COVID-19.
Modern CEO Stephane Bancel said, “Our COVID-19 vaccine is showing durable efficacy of 93% through six months, but recognize that the Delta variant is a significant new threat so we must remain vigilant.”
