A high alert has been issued in Puducherry as the Union Territory braces for cyclone 'Nivar'. Meanwhile, Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy visited several coastal areas to review the situation. "All departments are on high-alert & will work in close coordination for restoring electricity, water etc. We're working overtime to ensure that there's no loss of life," he said.

An IMD scientist S. Balachandran said, "The severe cyclonic storm is expected to cross between Karaikal and Mamallapuram around Puducherry by tomorrow evening. Under the influence of this cyclone, rainfall is expected to continue up to 27th November in Tamil Nadu."

As per reports, cyclone 'Nivar' is currently 50 km southwest from Chennai and moving in the northwest direction. IMD senior scientist RK Gennami said there is a possibility of the cyclone moving towards the Tamil Nadu coast and moving closer to Puducherry by about 5 pm tomorrow. At the same time, there is also a possibility of cyclone gaining intensity.
