Justice Rekha Palli asked the government and the Army whether it will give away the India Gate too in context of a private sports body operating out of the Delhi Cantonment. He court had earlier asked “how did you allow a private body to use your land?” and then said to which the Army said that the request had been received from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The court was told that the body had been given a small space of 20 ft x 12 ft for its prefabricated structure, but the court dismissed this and observed: “Whatever it is, it cannot be permitted. A private organization holding its registered office on Army land? Unheard of.”
Earlier, the court had said: “That may be your good conduct, but that does not make a difference. How do you permit a private body to use your land?” when Brigadier Sameer Lanba said that the Army had produced the most Olympians for the country.
