The trends of the assembly elections counting ongoing right now show that the BJP will secure 267 seats, down by 54 over its 2017 tally. The Samajwadi Party is 147 seats behind at 122, gaining 70 seats. The Samajwadi Party’s prominent faces including chief Akhilesh Yadav from Karhal, Azam Khan from Rampur, and Shivpal Yadav from Jaswantnagar in Etawah are leading in the vote counting.

Swami Prasad Maurya, the high profile BJP rebel MLA who went into the SP recently, has begun trailing in Fazilnagar seat in Kushinagar by 11,000 votes behind Surendra Khushwaha of the BJP.

In Punjab, the AAP has made a clean sweep according to the trends, and the established leadership consisting of Parkash Badal, Amarinder Singh, Navjot Singh Sidhu, and incumbent CM Charanjit Singh Channi are trailing. The AAP seems to have repeated its show in Delhi, and this will be the first victory for the party in a state outside Delhi where it will assume powers over law and order and other areas it does not control at present.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has made inroads into Goa and has gained 4 seats, the first for it outside its home state of West Bengal where party chief Mamata Banerjee is currently Chief Minister. Banerjee also campaigned for Akhilesh Yadav in the Uttar Pradesh elections, seeking to expand the political footprint of her party in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
