"Historic": PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi Congratulate Joe Biden, Kamala Harris

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were formally sworn in as President and Vice President at the inauguration ceremony on January 20. After they assumed office, leaders across the globe started congratulating the new administration.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, immediately after congratulating US President Joe Biden on being sworn in, congratulated Kamala Harris on becoming the 49th Vice President of the United States by calling it a historic occasion.

"Congratulations to @KamalaHarris on being sworn-in as @VP. It is a historic occasion. Looking forward to interacting with her to make India-USA relations more robust. The India-USA partnership is beneficial for our planet." Prime Minister Modi wrote.

Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi also congratulated Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, calling it "a new chapter of their democracy."

Rahul Gandhi wrote in a tweet, "Congratulating the USA on a new chapter of their democracy. Best wishes to President Biden and Vice-President Harris.'

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram also tweeted and said, "I hope all our political leaders are watching the swearing in as President of the United States of 78-year old Joe Biden who has pledged to unite a divided nation and restore its soul."

"I hope all our political leaders are watching the swearing-in of Kamala Harris as VP of the United States and absorbing lessons on diversity and pluralism. I also hope that INDIA will forever celebrate diversity and pluralism in this ancient land," Chidambaram added.
