India Abstains On UN General Assembly Resolution On Humanitarian Crisis Presented By Ukraine, Allies

In the UN General Assembly on Thursday, India abstained on a resolution on the humanitarian crisis in the war-torn eastern European country proposed by Ukraine and its supporters.

The General Assembly's 193 members resumed their 11th Emergency Special Session on Ukraine on Thursday, voting on a draught resolution titled "Humanitarian Consequences of Ukraine's Aggression by Ukraine and its Western Allies."

With 140 votes in favour, 38 abstentions, and five no votes, the resolution was approved.

India, along with 12 other UN Security Council members, voted no on a Russian-sponsored resolution on Ukraine's humanitarian crisis on Wednesday. The UNSC resolution was rejected because it lacked the requisite 9 affirmative votes to pass. The UNSC resolution was supported by only Russia and China.

India has previously voted no on resolutions concerning Russia's invasion of Ukraine on two occasions in the Security Council and once in the General Assembly.
