Indian Railways Cancels Over 400 Trains

As a cold wave swept north India, the Indian Railways cancelled 437 trains on Thursday due to operational concerns and hazy weather conditions. Around 13 Delhi-bound trains, including the Howrah-New Delhi Express, Puri-New Delhi Express, Gorakhpur-New Delhi Express, Mumbai-New Delhi Express, and Kanpur-New Delhi Express, have been delayed.

On Thursday, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam were engulfed in deep fog, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. "Dense fog has been observed over Delhi (Palam 50m), Punjab (Amritsar 50m), Haryana (Karnal and Hissar 50m each), UP (Lucknow 50m), northwest MP (Gwalior 50m), Bihar (Patna and Gaya 50m), Sub Himalayan west Bengal (Cooch Behar 50m), and Assam (Dhubri 50m)," according to the IMD.

The trains were operating in Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Assam, and Bihar when they were cancelled.

Other trains travelling through Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand had been cancelled by the Railways from January 15 to 22.Indian Railways cancelled 385 trains, including passengers and mall-express, on 19 January.
