The Finance Ministry summoned Infosys CEO Salil Parekh to explain to Finance Minister Nirala Sitharaman why the new e-filing portal is non-functional even after 2.5 months of being notified by the ministry. Parekh has to answer to the Ministry on August 23.
The Ministry has sought an explanation from Parekh as to why “even after 2.5 months since the launch of [the] new e-filing portal, glitches in the portal have not been resolved”. The Income Tax Department has further informed that “since 21/08/2021, the portal itself is not available”.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had said “Revenue Secretary [Tarun Bajaj] has been neutrally monitoring the progress on fixing the portal on a weekly basis”. The portal has been facing technical issues ever since its launch two months ago in June.
