Justice After 28 Years: Kerala Catholic Priest, Nun Convicted In Sister Abhaya Murder Case

A special CBI court in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram has delivered its verdicts in the murder case of Sister Abhaya. The court convicted Father Thomas Kottoor and Sister Sephy in the case.

Both have been convicted of murder and erasing evidence to conceal the crime. Apart from this, Thomas Kottoor is also accused of trespassing.

The quantum of punishment will be delivered on 24 December. Currently, Thomas Kottoor and Sister Sephy are in judicial custody. Another father, Poothrikkayil, the third accused, has been acquitted two years back due to the lack of evidence.

The court hearing on this 28-years-old case began a year ago. A total of 49 witnesses appeared during the hearing in the court and 98 significant witnesses presented their case in the case.

In 1992, 21-year-old Sister Abhaya was killed in a convent in Kottayam and then her body was thrown into a well. According to the CBI, Sister Abhaya had witnessed intimate contact between Father Kottoor, Poothrikkayil, and Sephy, after which the three killed her and threw her body into the well.
