The Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai on Wednesday said that as per the data provided by the Central Armed Police Force (CAPFs) and the Assam Rifles (AR), 680 personnel of the paramilitary forces have died due to suicide in the last six years.
Accidents and encounters have led to the death of 1,764 and 323 personnels respectively.
Nityanand Rai in a written reply to BJP MP Sushil Modi’s question of “Whether it is a fact that more than 700 personnel of paramilitary forces have committed suicide during the last six years” said, “Domestic problems, illness and financial problems could be contributory factors among others behind the suicides.”
