Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday announced a National Edible Oil Mission-Oil Palm (NMEO-OP). This has been done to make India self-sufficient in cooking oils, including palm oil.
He said that over Rs 11,000 crore will be invited in the edible oil ecosystem while addressing a virtual event on the PM-Kisan Scheme.
PM Modi said that while India became self sufficient in the production of rice, wheat and sugar, it was not enough as the country is dependent on huge imports of edible oils.
