NCP Leader Seeks Hanuman Chalisa, Namaaz Outside PM’s Residence, Writes To Home Ministry

A leader from the Shard-Pawar led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has written to the Home Ministry seeking permission to chant ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ and offering namaaz outside the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a day after independent lawmaker couple of Ravi Rana, MLA, and Navneet Rana, MP, called for the same outside the house of Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. This led to counter-protests and the couple getting arrested for sedition.

Party leader Fahmida Hussain Khan said in her letter that she wants to recite the Hindu hymns ‘Hanuman Chalisa’, ‘Durga Chalisa’, and ‘Namokar Mantra’ along with offering namaaz (Islamic prayer) outside Modi’s house on Lok Kalyan Marg.

On Sunday, a court in Mumbai remanded the lawmaker couple to 14 days judicial custody while the cops had sought police custody. An investigation into a ‘fraudulent’ caste certificate obtained by the couple by furnishing other fake documents to be identified as ‘Mochi’ Hindus (shoemakers) has also been initiated. Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut had commented that the couple was ‘fraud and bogus’, in this connection.
