No Agreement With India For Creation Of Military Base: Mauritius

Mauritius on Wednesday denied reports that it had allowed India to build a military base on the island of Agalega. A government official said that no such agreement exists between the two nations.

Ken Arian a communications adviser to Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth said, “There is no agreement between Mauritius and India for the creation of a military base in Agalega.”

He added that although work was under way under way for two projects that were agreed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 2015 visit to Mauritius which includes a three kilometre air strip and a jetty but they won’t be used for military purposes.
