Section 144 Imposed In Telangana Over Installation Of Shivaji Statue

On Sunday, section 144 was imposed in Bodhan town of Telangana’s Nizamabad district after clashes took place between members of two political factions over the setting up of a Shivaji statue.

A BJP MP Arvind Dharmapuri said that a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji was was planned to be put up at the Ambedkar crossroad of Bodhan town, which shares a border with Maharashtra.

He further said that AIMIM and TRS workers, opposed to the installation of the statue,raised objections and also tried to get in the way of setting up the statue. The matter took violent turn when the two groups started to protest and pelted each other with stones. Teargas shells were then used to disperse the crowd and bring the situation under control.

A police constable was also injured during the stone pelting, and was send to the medical examination, said the police.  Police pickets were set up and preventive arrests were being made, another senior police official-in-charge of law and order told PTI. No permission was obtained for installing the statue, said the official.
