SKM To Review Progress Made By Centre Govt To Farmers

Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) is all set to review the progress made by the Centre on the promises made to farmers, including setting up a panel on MSP, and decide the future course of action began on Monday in the city.

The meeting is being held at the Gandhi Peace Foundation at Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg and will continue until 5 pm.

The SMK had organized a year-long agitation against the Centre’s three farm laws. It had suspended the stir on December 9 last year after the government cancelled the laws and agreed to consider its six other demands which included withdrawal of cases registered against farmers during the agitation, a legal guarantee on minimum support price (MSP) and compensation for kin of farmers who died during the protest.

According to SKM functionary, the main reason of the meeting is to review the progress made on the assurance letter given by the government on December 9, 2021, to the SKM, the national action plan on the issue of MSP and in the Lakhimpur Kheri case.

SKM also observed 'Vishwas Ghat Diwas' (day of betrayal), across India with large-scale protest demonstrations at district and block levels earlier in the month of January. The farmers also endorsed a ‘no vote to BJP’ stance, as the Union government handed them deceit.

The farmers had agitated for more than a year, demanding repeal of the three contentious farm laws and the agitation was called off after the Centre announced the decision to repeal the three farm laws.

Farmer Activist and Founder Of Swaraj Abhiyan Avik Saha and Yogendra Yadav posted a video with stating that, 'The immediate concern of SKM is withdrawal of all cases lodged against farmers during the course of the agitation'.

Avik Saha said: “I have been charged under UAPA. Am I a terrorist?” SKM to meet today, focus on restarting the farmers’ protest
