 Ukraine’s Security, Defense Chief Dismisses ‘Treaty’ With Russia, Bombardment Of East Continues

Amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine that has now entered day 58, Alexei Danilov, the head of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, said to reporters from the Ukrayinska Pravda that he did not believe in a peace treaty with the Russian Federation. He added: “We have had many, many of them in our history. And they constantly violated them”.

Danilov also said that Ukraine is continuing efforts to help its forces in Mariupol: "everything possible and impossible is being done to help the residents and defenders of the city."

This comes as Russian forces continue their assault on the eastern front of the war, at the contact line between the Ukrainian-held Donbass region and the separatist enclaves of Donetsk and Lugansk ‘People’s Republics’. Air raid warnings have been issued over the following regions: 

Russian Advances In Eastern Front: Luhansk In Control, Azovstal Locked Down

Ukrainian sources were quoted in media yesterday saying that Russian forces control 80% of Luhansk (Lugansk in Russian), and areas along the frontline like Kramatorsk and Kharkiv were also witnessing bombardment and shelling. Russian President Putin told his forces to call off the Mariupol operation on Azovstal and instead lock down the Ukrainian forces and wait for them to emerge, after a Russian surrender offer was ignored by Ukrainians.

Russian Defence Ministry Claims 58 Overnight Strikes

The Russian Defence Ministry said today that it had attacked 58 military tarets in Ukraine overnight. These attacks focused on sites where men, equipment, and fuel depots were concentrated. S-300 missiles were reportedly used in three of the strikes. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military claims that Russian losses are more than 21,000.

The UK Defence Ministry’s latest update claims that Russian forces are depleted and Putin is redeploying them to focus on the eastern front. It also claims that Russia has “resorted to transiting inoperable equipment back to Russia for repair”.

Ukraine Needs To Step Up Gas Production, Says Ukrainian Commissioner

Andriy Gerus, chairman of the Committee on Energy and Housing and Communal Services of Ukraine, said that the ongoing war means reduced Russian gas transit fees for Ukraine, and it must step up its production and gas flows from other European countries. National Institute for Strategic Studies in Kyiv has said that since the beginning of the Russian assault, the main gas production regions in Poltova and Kharkiv have been targeted, leading to a loss of production capacity.
