UP Governor Gives Nod To Ordinance Against 'Dishonest' Religious Conversions

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel on Saturday approved the Yogi government's ordinance against forced or "dishonest" religious conversions, an official said.

State Cabinet Minister Siddharth Nath Singh had said in a statement that this ordinance has been brought to prevent 'illegal conversions' in the state.

The ordinance provides for a jail term of 1-5 years with a fine of Rs 15,000 for forcible conversion. In addition to this, a provision of 3-10 years of imprisonment has been made with a fine of Rs 25,000 on the conversion of minors and women of the SC / ST community.
